What is a Paternity Test?

Alternatively, the persons being tested can walk to the laboratory for sample collection. In addition, the laboratory staff can go to a place of the client’s choice to collect sample and present them to the laboratory for testing.

Results from a non-legal paternity test are NOT admissible in court and may not be used for official purposes.

The test results of both types are same. The significant key difference between legal and non-legal DNA testing is that you can present the results of a legal DNA test as evidence in court, but you can’t present results from a non-legal DNA test in court. The choice between a legal and non-legal test depends on the intended use of the results.

How Do Paternity Tests Work?

  1. Sample Collection: The test basically involves collecting DNA samples from the child, the alleged father, and if need be the mother. There are 3 sample collection options.

Option A. legal paternity test sample collection: All parties being tested must go to the laboratory for sample collection and present their identification documents.

Option B. Non-legal paternity sample collection: The clients can choose to come to the Laboratory for sample collection. Alternatively, the clients can request for a laboratory staff to go to their home or a place of their choice to collect sample. The third choice, the client can request that a DNA collection kit be sent to them for home sample collection.

Option C. Discreet sample collection: Sometimes women who are not sure about their child’s biological father prefer to conduct a paternity test in secret without involving additional parties. In this case the mother can collect a potential father’s DNA from various samples and present it to the laboratory for testing. On the other hand, men who doubt if they are the biological fathers to their child, opt to collect samples from the child in discreet and present them to the laboratory for testing without involving a third party. If you choose to use a discreet sample for a paternity test, there are many types of samples can be used for DNA testing, including:
